If you have been following me on Instagram and watch my Instagram Stories, then you know how much of a snack-er I am. I never leave the house without food and pack snacks on every single trip I go on. I get a lot of questions about my favorite healthy snacks so I decided to do a post on it for you guys! Let me know if you have any questions.
Popcorn
I have been obsessed with popcorn since before I can remember. Since before popcorn which came pre-popped in a bag at the grocery store was a thing. My older brother actually suffered a real-life popcorn addiction growing up… and I think he passed it onto me. I eat popcorn at least 4 times a week. Friday night? You know it – movie + popcorn.
My favorite type of popcorn is the Buddha Bowl popcorn by Lesser Evil. Another fun fact – I am obsessed with Coconut Oil and this popcorn is made with Coco Oil v. sunflower/canola/vegetable/other highly refined oils. Also hits my standards of being organic + GMO-free.
Pumpkin Seeds
Always organic, of course. If you are like me and buy 80% of your life on Amazon, this is the brand I recommend. Something to note with pumpkin seeds – make sure you buy the unsalted kind. Yes, salted + roasted tastes way better, but the American diet already gets way more salt than necessary (thank you to our favorite restaurants and pre-prepared foods) so no need to add to it. Pumpkin seeds are great for heart health, your immune system, and have a substantial amount of protein. Eating a mostly plant-based diet, this is very helpful for me.
Vegetables + Hummus
I always have cut up vegetables in the fridge so they are easy to grab and snack on. I get bored of plain vegetables from time to time so every now and then I pick-up some hummus. I actually had to break my habit of buying hummus regularly because I would eat hummus, vegetables + crackers for every meal instead of cooking. So, don’t do that, but it is a great go-to snack.
Apples with Sunflower Butter
Again, always organic. No GMOs + pesticide covered apples for me. Also again, make sure your butter does not have added salt.
Slice of Toast with Avocado
Some would call this Avocado Toast, but my version is not fancy enough to claim this title so I will just call it a slice of toast with avocado. The brand of bread I eat is Dave’s Killer Bread and if you have not tried it – it will absolutely change your life and take on bread/toast. So good + filled with tons of seeds! You can get it at Whole Foods, Target, and of course, Amazon. Annnnnd you guessed it – organic + no GMOs!
That’s it for my go-to snacks. My main advice for snacking is to always prepare. Constantly having snacks on hand keeps me in routine and helps to ensure I am on track for a healthy day of eating every day. I read a quote recently that said “to fail to prepare, is to prepare to fail” and eating well very much applies to this.
