Traveling is one of my all-time favorite past times. I love experiencing new cultures and part of that is trying their food (which often leads to unhealthy eating). Add in airports, hotels, the *on vacation* and *might never be here again* mindset, and you are in for a series of less than healthy decisions.
After coming home from many trips feeling like a complete trainwreck + so unhealthy, I decided I travel way too frequently to let trips get the best of me. After years and years of practice, see my top tips for how to stay healthy on the road below:
Find Time to Workout
I used to never workout when I traveled and it makes a huge difference. Even if it is going for a 30-minute walk in the morning, or a 20-minute at home workout, I do something every morning now when I am on the road. It also helps when I come back home and am trying to get back into things.
Don’t Go Crazy on The Booze
I get the wanting to let loose mentality when traveling but try to keep it at a reasonable amount. The second you get through security to your departure flight is usually not the best time to order drinks. I see so many people at the bars in airports and this is one of the top ways to get your trip off on an unhealthy start.
Prepare
Do not assume hotels, airplanes or airports will have what you want when you get there. I always pack meals (usually oatmeal) on plane flights which are over 3 hours. I bring an abundance of snacks, and even bring my own organic coffee + tea. Traveling wrecks havoc on your immune system and ensuring you have foods which are nutritious is key. I brought the Immunity Now tea (you can find it by clicking here) from Lifestyle Awareness on my last trip + loved it! I went to the coffee shop in the airport and asked for hot water, placed my tea bag in the cup and voila.
Try to Get Some Rest
Not sleeping is another way to stress your immune system. If you have a late flight, give yourself time to sleep in the next day. If you find yourself running around like crazy, take a 20 minute afternoon nap before dinner to recharge.
I hope these tips help you stay healthy on your next trip! Being healthy while traveling makes it so much easier to get back into things when you are home.
